SUMMARY
This commentary retells the DOJ’s quiet deletion of its extremism report as a modern-day fairy tale. In this story, truth becomes the missing page, politicians become tricksters, and the people are left wondering what else has been erased. It’s a reminder that democracy doesn’t collapse in one blow — it unravels when facts are buried, stories are spun, and power hides behind the curtain.
“Erase the record, and you don’t erase the past — you erase the proof that it ever happened.”
Once upon a time, in a country not so far away, the people were told they lived in a land of freedom. They were promised that their leaders would protect the truth, and that their votes would always count.
But like in every fairy tale, there was a trick hiding in the shadows. Because behind the grand speeches and glittering promises, the powerful discovered something dangerous: if you can erase the record, you can control the story. And if you can control the story, you can control the people.
One day, the kingdom’s Department of Justice quietly made a report disappear. It wasn’t just any report. It was a record of truth — proof that far-right extremists had taken more lives than any other group for decades. With a single click, the report was gone.
In a timing well-advantaged, just after a man named Charlie Kirk was killed — a conservative activist, co-founder of Turning Point USA, and a loud voice for far-right politics. The rulers wanted to point the finger at the radical left. They didn’t want the people to remember what the record actually said. So the truth was erased.
The villagers — that’s us — were left to wonder: if this report could disappear so easily, what other parts of the story had been torn out before? Had votes been swayed by missing ballots? Had lies been sold as truth? Nobody could say for sure, but the silence was louder than any answer.
The people looked to both of the great political parties — the Red Party and the Blue Party — hoping one might be better. But the Blue Party carried its own sack of broken promises, half-truths, and well-dressed lies told just to win over the villagers. And the Red Party? They spun their tale’s so fast, they could turn a fact upside down and still sell it as truth. Neither house could be trusted.
And so the villagers learned the hardest lesson of all: too many of us believe the stories we’re given without ever peeking behind the curtain. That’s how the game is played. Keep the same tale alive. Keep the people in the dark.
Every fairy tale has a moment when the villagers wakes up – and when they do, the kingdom’s rulers can no longer pretend that truth is just another story to erase. Because whoever controls the story controls the world. If they can decide what you see — or what you never see — then they can shape your choices, your beliefs, even your vote.
The greatest trick isn’t the lie itself — it’s convincing people not to question the story they’ve been given.
“You can hide the fire, but you can’t hide the smoke.”
The End.
